When we are in the forums is there a link to go back to the Home Page?

Forums open into a new page separate to the home page, you will see a second tab, just click 1st tab for Home Page.

One can be added.

This setup .. from the "front page" you open a new window for the forums .. so simply click back onto the 'old' window and that should do it.

Pro's and Cons
If you 'contain' your forums inside your "home page" then you need to give up a little bit on Signature widths. make the max width say .. umm.. 500? UK I think has 450. Esthetically I think the forums look a lot better inside the "home page", and gives one that feeling of ONE SITE. One link .. all services.

The current setup avoids some "remember log in " problems and other assorted difficulties due to user browser settings,  but will result over long usage of folks bookmarking the forums .. and thus never needing to go to the 'real site'. So the 'real site' will have little value and announcement etc may never be seen.

There are other pro's and cons that your webmaster may want to input on.

So lets make the sigs. 450 to 500 wide to fit.

I agree with TBar that the home page will be useless once the Forums is bookmarked.

Thats why I chose for the UKAA site an integrated portal that fit the forums.

It also means that when I get round to it I can make certain things on the homepage visible to Guests but not registered members - eg information for people about the game etc, and (as is already implemented) the league tables are displayed for registered users but not guests.

Our forums were also chosen to allow import of all the previous posts from the old ones - Will you be doing so here as well?

If I can help at all, just gimme a shout.

I forgot to say WD to firestorm on the theme as well, a lot more pleasing to the eye than the old one, less liable to trigger migranes ;-)

Thanks Animal for your comments.

In regard to the forums, this will be something we need to work out...either we go for them wrapped inside the website or we go for the spacious look.

I guess this will be a point of discussion for a while but either way I'll just do what is best for all and more importantly, the AA community at large.

Fire,

This process will open window after window where there are multiple windows (Tabs) for USAAC. When you get the time 'name' the main window and the forum window and direct the Links/urls to the correct named window... potential problem resolved.  (??)

Done mate...the website has a different link name to the forum now. You can easily work out which is the forums and which is the website.

Hehe.. yes, but .. the original window needs to be named also :)  Good show, good move, I think it will help.

I still feel that putting the forums inside the wrapper is the way to go.. and increasing the wrapper by that little 200 pixels will do that trick. Our template can be set to 'expand' when the users resolution is higher than 1024x768 ..yes? Placing the forums inside the wrapper .. to my knowledge.. the only thing we have to watch for is "images" that exceed a given rule for warping the view. All images including the most common used which is a signature.

Lets try it then...I'll set up another link to the forums under FAQ and then change the signature sizing if that is possible.

I'll let you know when its done
