Let me preface this by saying today when I used my right as a citizen of the good ole USofA I was asked if I were voting Republican or Democratic. I was appalled and promptly answered neither. I said well I am neither and every test I take shows me to be a centrist or middle of the road moderate. The lady replied saying you can chose that but you will not get to vote on hardly any of the ballots. So a picked one... begrudgingly!

As for the post below I do indeed find some truth to some items but not all. I may post another tomorrow!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you ever wondered which side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!

If a Republican doesn't like guns, he doesn?t buy one.
If a Democrat doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a Republican is a vegetarian, he doesn?t eat meat.
If a Democrat is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a Republican is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A Democrat wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a Republican doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Democrats demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a Republican is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A Democrat non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.

If a Republican decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A Democrat demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a Republican reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A Democrat will delete it because he's "offended".

Well, I forwarded posted it here instead!

Sadly, very true.  Also sadly how they can almost force you to choose one of two at the voting polls. I always have been and always will be registered as an independent. Two reasons I do this; 1. I am free to vote for whatever party I choose.  2. I never get called to hand out pamphlets about some guy I think is full of crap.

Exactly what I thought, when reading above list, that is created in such a way.

Black and White. Those who want to believe it, don´t think any further and fool themselves by agreeing to it. It´s quite easy to create such confrontational statement - lists  from any point of view. I could even think of a couple more points in favor for the reps.

Stereotyped statements as usual. One would expect nothing different coming from a frustrated rep, who feels the need to backbite dems. Such lists could be quite funny, if not so many idiots would think it´s all true.

Obviously low level propaganda from a die-hard reactionary.

One could think. No, I´m neither a democrat, nor a liberal in the american sense of politics. If I could answer your question with yes or no, my world would be just as black and white.

Politics are controlled by the economy (over here as well as over there). They´re all corrupt in one way or the other. You could give those parties alot of names they wouldn´t come close to justice.

 - Democrats. It´s a big word and has its roots in democracy. One should think they´re acting in a democratic way. Do they ?

 - Republicans. Has its roots in republic. Which means politics that are oriented alongside commonwealth and common welfare. In France at the time of the french revolution it was meant as a counter concept to monarchy. (all power emanates from the people)
Should we laugh or cry ?

Nowadays it comes all down to egoism and/or social behaviour and which party stands for more of those two aspects. I would always vote for the party which stands for more social behaviour. If this is the democrats, I don´t know but looking at the current U.S. politics, I guess not. But if I had the choice of only those 2 parties, I´d lean to the democrats more, yes.

One could describe me as a socialist who adheres to certain conservative values. Left from the middle but not far left, so to speak.

What I don´t like is propaganda in any form. It is not only impure competition, it is very dangerous because ´ordinary Joe´ falls way to easily for it and this way you can mobilize masses for the wrong beliefs. It worked a treat in Germany of the 30ies.

One needs to understand how it works: the topic suggests that there is a fence (in the middle) and there is one side and the other side (just as if we hadn´t the choice to vote for a 3rd party or none). Your options are restricted and you need to make a decision. We will help you making up your mind, by adding a couple statements, which you´ll either find to be true or untrue (black and white). Make up your mind. Decide....
If you understand the psychology behind the propaganda, you´ll easily looking through its purpose.

Whenever I read such propaganda on these boards or elsewhere, published by yourself or anyone else, it´s always in favour for the republicans but never in favour of the dems, which leads me to believe that a party that fools itself by using such impure tools, like propaganda must be a bad party to vote for. So, I´m not necessarily pro- democrats but this way I become more and more anti - republicans.

Propaganda offends me, yes. It offends (no, it even insults) my intelligence, rather than my political views.

The post is not meant to insult anyone's intelligence nor offend someone from another country.

I do not see it a propaganda per say but rather someone's interesting observation on what so called Rep and Dem do or don't do when certain things that come across their life.

And your point on the title is exactly how I felt yesterday when I went to vote. I was told I could either be on the left or the right but I could not straddle the fence so to speak and vote on both sides or be a bipartisan. I too and in the middle of the road leaning to the conservative side but also have many liberal views.

And to be quite honest, I have friends who are Democrat and friends who are Republican. I get emails for this type of stuff almost exclusively slanted to the republican side. As I have posted before, I ever a get one that leans to the Dem side, I will be sure to post it ASAP.

Since politics draws angst I think my next one will be racial! You are gonna love this one!!

I apologize for you feeling insulted and or offended.

You don´t need to apologize, Vipor. You´re not the author, only the messenger or better the one who throws a controversial topic into the room because your robe is dirty again.  biggrin

It´s very obviously propaganda m8. It´s also a biased observation, rather than an interesting one. It´s totally generalizing and assuming....and it is what simple minds might think, when looking for a culprit for their miseries. It serves the lowest instincts.

You never admitted it and nevertheless I knew it all the time. Not a surprisingly ´outing´, mate. It´s up to you.

But with long hairs and a joint in your hands, who is living from welfare (haven´t you mentioned it once ?) you really aren´t the prime example of a conservative. They´re having strong views, you know. But when it goes against the minorities you´ll be still one of them, because you´re white-skinned. You´re a lucky one. smile
