Hi Guys

Since the SNL league is not going ahead due to not enough squads signing up my squad have requested a league where some pilots fly bombers and have to fly from one point to another and not being shot down. The other pilots would have to defend the bombers. Points would be worked out on a round won basis. The team to get the most bombers back to the base and landed. In the event of no bombers making it back the round will be won by who ever has the last bomber flying.
Please tell me your thoughts about this and weather it is something squads would sign up for.

Cheers All

This topic should really be in Fun Events or Leagues, but lets leave it here to see where it goes.

What you are talking about is basically a Fun Event that we have here at USAAC called "12 O'Clock High". This fun event can be turned into a league event that would not interfere with SNL when it does start up. Squads have to sign up , give a preferred side. Once all squads are signed up, the the League Mgr would have to balance the two sides. So its possible that Assassins could sign up for "South" side, but the League Mgr to balance things may have to put you on the "North" side. What we call the opposing forces in the Fun Event is North Side Alliance and South Side Alliance. Once each squad is assigned a faction, they remain in that faction so long as the league event lasts.

With a few tweaks.. this Fun Event works as a League. ALL Squads participate at the same time, ALL Refs work the event at the same time. Refs pilot the bombers.. and they are the score keepers and final word on all.

The images are missing for some reason ( ahem.. FireStorm ), but check out this link:

http://airattack.us/event/rules_12.html

If there is positive feedback in this thread, PopGun might take this matter up with me for "how to" and we might be able to work this out.

Well kids it is nice to see some interest in something different.

12'oclock high is the name ot the game,It is a lot of fun,
But it takes more setting up than your average league.

There can be some tech challenges as Tbar and I know.
I know the BBC would participate in this.
I have tried to get other types of leagues going but it hard to get  enough squads involved.

I will give this another try if Tbar will help me,

its a great idea for the near future but at the moment the bombers are not completely stable (though I believe the developers have managed to get them stable at US camp only for now).

I will try to get an update on the situation.

Yes, the big US bomber is so far stable and can be used.
It's also the only one so far which can be selected.
Every other bomber or the flying saucer needs admin rights.

We could try other bombers like the small GB bomber, only thing is that one plane can't shoot him down. After having ~60% damage he doesn't take any more damage from the same plane.
Nasty bug.

German bombers pretty much the same but not all the time. Would need some more testing, but there we have small and big available.

The big UK bomber is not available, same as the big SU bomber and the small US bomber.

SU bomber I would only test if someone is able to restart immediately the game server. Looks like it brings the house down.

An Idea from Nibs
I think this would go over very well.

I was thinking TBar and TOW might be able to offer some support on this. Also perhaps the guys in BSS.

One of it's major appeals is that it would force both defensive and offensive action and simulate an actual bombing mission.

-No Alt limit (why have any?)
-3 squares (too many?)
-minimum of 2 bombers and 6 fighters. Target 3 and 8
-points for downing a bomber
-points for downing a fighter
-points for each bomber that lands back at starting base
-round ends after all bombers land or are downed
-fighters crash after all bombers land or are downed? To keep rounds as short as possible?

Need to come up with a proper League title...Untold Valor Memorial League?.....or something in honor of the WWII pilots who flew bombing missions.

I think AA should host.

Nibs

I like this idea nibs has but forward. I Would also love it Air Assassins were to host this :)

1) ToW has nothing to do with AA Events.
2) The 12 O'clock High Event can be used for a League "thing". Read 12 O'clock High rules again as I think they contain "nibs" points.
3) Invite Nibs to make his own posts :)  We don't bite.

I am moving this post to the "League" area where more might participate. I'll leave a link here in this forum.  This is a League Topic as I read the way this is going, so it would then become Popguns area of expertise/mgmt.

The Fun Event Team has a meeting for this Friday and this matter is on the agenda. What is being considered is putting this fun Event up on a Sunday or Saturday outside of League Activity. Perhaps Scheduled for about 2 weeks from now. The event could then be used for a test run of sorts.

I will set up a meeting with Popgun and discuss this matter. After said meeting he would be the person to follow this thread and respond in most cases. I have expertise in several areas and would be more than happy to do some of the back end work for this type of League Project at Popguns request.  I am well area of the restriction dictated by the use of bombers and their affect on the server, I am the pioneer of bomber events for USAAC.

Ta Ta for now :)
