Referees for matches
«

Attention all those who volunteer to ref a match. We all appreciate the time devoted to this. As a ref I try to not take a match that I know I can't make. Now everyone has real life issues that happens from time to time. We all can understand that. But if you take a match and can't make it for some reason please let someone on the ref list know or cancel the ref ticket. Not trying to make waves but it's frustrating to not have a ref. And since there are many on the ref list there's really no excuse.
Thank you for your cooperation no this matter....

I'll make waves, lol. Half the squads that compete have no ref's on their squad or have deadbeat refs on them and never ref a match. I thought that every squad had to produce a ref. What happened to that rule??? It is always the same handfull of people doing all the reffing but yet tons of pilots show up for matches. There is no excuse for this!
If a squad does not produce an active ref they should not be allowed to compete in the matches.
I don't care if this pisses you off if you are one of these squads, stop being a deadbeat squad along for the free ride! It is time you people pull your weight around here and do your share of the reffing!!

I'm not sure if Thorn provide a ref, quite frankly I find it shocking that you're suggesting a team is banned from competing in leagues if they don't provide a ref. I was a ref for a good 8yrs, I remember a league running about 10yrs ago that had so few refs I was reffing 2 or sometimes 3 matches in a day. You need to remember some squads have been contributing (refs/instructors) for many years already and that it's enough for some people just to play for 1 or 2 hours a week. How about we ban squads that fail to have the minimum pilots show up for every match?
I think that by simply shouting and moaning you're not going to actually solve the problem. Someone needs to remove all the refs that haven't actually reffed a game in years from the list so that it's possible to see how many active refs there are. With that information, and the number of refs available it should be easier to see if more refs are required and recruited. Instead of threatening people try to encourage them, I find that approach works better. Also, some teams will contribute more, it's a fact of life, I remember [TSQN] used to have 4 or 5 active refs and others had none, does it matter where they come from so long as the community has enough?

I've got to agree with Bonzy on this one
I think it only fair that each squad has at least one ref, prefferably two (though I wouldn't go as far as calling any squad 'dead beat' lol)
I also agree with Monsta that the ref list should be checked over
I am more than happy to assist anyone wishing to take up a ref position
Personally I would like to thank everyone that gives their time to reffing, I and BBC appreciate it greatly, thank you

I think for simple leagues in which the referee duty is restricted to time-taking and scramble - and crash now - commands everyone is capable to ref a match, even if not listed as a ref. All you need to have are the ref-commands in the toall.txt-file. For calling the maplimit, it is even an advantage when the referee is flying and may closer to the situation, than any referee located far away on the US-runway, possibly having a laggy view on things. (Of course a referee without a well-oiled clock, might get problems.
)
On many occasions TKFM and other squads, have reffed their own matches. Either one or even both halves. It´s just a matter of trust in long time - buddies.
Perhaps it needs at least 2 or 3 trusted pilots in each squad with having access to the referee-tickets, in order to fill in the form for the score sheets.
Anything else gets decided by the head-referee by watching laggy replays anyway, provided replays are available.

I agree Tulla, I'm not even registered as a ref but on occasion have reffed (and flown) matches where a ref hasn't turned up and the match reports have been produced by a registered ref. The problem is not as acute as it was before when scores were taken by a screenshot of Alt-T at a time judged 30mins by the ref; now a ref is a time keeper and a watcher of map limits, these things are easily covered by players in game who record things for any disputes.
Is it right to punish Squads whose pilots were refs for many years but no longer have any? Why weren't you around to ref our games years ago when we didn't have enough refs? Thorn have contributed 2 Club Captains and many refs and instructors, so; what do we consider to be a squad contributing enough to the game? I know people contribute to the running of AA (and I'm thankful for those that still do), but please don't forget people have been doing this for a long time already and grow tired and weary and are just happy to have a match with their mates every week...

It sucks flying and reffing.
Its hard to focus on playing and watching the time. It depends also on the match play. LTS is easy, but something timed like 2 sqaud and 4 squad really sucks.

Come on you refs!
BBC took all 4 tickets last night!
Pop reffed our own match - then Warships v Thorn
Kid went straight from our match and took over from Gelp (who'd had to ref his own match)
Then carried on to ref the Wasps v Tigers
A lil' unfair me thinks

If every pilot from each squad stepped up just once during a league and reffed 1 match
he would only have to do it once during the entire league If at all,,,, Correct me if you think I'm
wrong....
We have way more than enough pilots to cover a league twice over...

You guys put a lot of effort in and many people thank you for it including me.
But I agree with Tulla and Monsta.
I sometimes go to ref games when I notice no ref is there, but usually recently one of the squads has a ref on the team or the CO is already doing it, and tell me I am not needed! :)
