Hermann "Kujo" Göring defected to the Soviet Union and recruited a band of mercenaries to fight for the a Soviet Block against the Axis war machine. In a move that surprised the Germans, the Russians launched a well planned counter offensive in the skies over Stalingrad. The Russians had commandeered a squadron of German aircraft and put it to good use against the German Luftwaffe.
Could it possibly be that the Soviet pilots have a better understanding of the German planes than that of the German air force? In the skies over Stalingrad it sure seemed to be the case. With up to 25 pilots fighting out over the city. The Soviets were taking no prisoners. Not one parachute was seen and it was also told by eye witnesses on the ground that any German caught were immediately executed and there bodies burned.
The Germans, in a last ditch effort, tried to counter the Soviets with a head on attack which was successful only for a short while. In the end it was the Soviets who achieved the victory and won the battle.
While it was only one battle it was a massive defeat for the German who promised to get revenge at the next meeting of the two powerful forces.
