After using the forums for some time, What I am not likeing about the site is I inevitably wind up with too many usaac windows opened.

In comparison to the way the USHA site works and the UK site works.

The UK site portal page opens full width of screen. Links to forums open full page and fill the screen.

Although the colors are wonderful, the pictures are great, alot of great features, the one thing that gets kind of bothersome is the way the pages open. I am familiar with right click and open in new window but that still doesnt do the job too well.

I know you cant please everybody and there is probably a medium here somewhere but is anyone else experiencing the same?

OK.. slow down because our WebMaster gave us the best of both worlds ...

However .. there is a tiny snafu with the 'naming' of the windows that will be corrected which will stop all those windows opening. WebMaster is under the weather down under .. but he will get to it :)

You will be happy I'm sure.

For now:
If you look under "FAQ's" on the main site .. you will see a link for "Forums -open in new window".. this does the trick for FULL WIDTH... just click da button :)

If you are in the forums.. and you right click on the HOME button .. open as new window .. that does the trick.

If you don't mind the view inside the wrapper .. just click on forums from the main site.

------STOP READING HERE .. want to keep this short --------------

Ok. here is a consideration to take into account. The system we are using is much more powerful than many "portal systems' other site may be using. The template and system here was set to 'get it up fast'.. and get it working so folks could use the site, staff could get some work done.. so its not perfect but usable.

The WebMaster chose to stay with a standard of 1024x768 because AA is an old game .. and many folks have substandard monitors, graphic cards etc. Many of us have state of the art stuff .. but there are a lot of pilots that don't play any other game .. because they don't have the computer/monitor that can handle anything more than AA... and a 1024x768 resolution. If this was a wrong consideration .. it will be rectified in time.

Your WebMaster will get this all working to everyones liking. It just takes a little time working with those mean.. ugly.. templates, etc.

There is a lot on the site just not done as yet.

I want it NOW NOW NOW DEMMIT !!!

LOL

Fire can take all the time he needs. No rush no complaint no harrasment no refunds.

All Im saying is that a simple guy like me notices that the forums work better at UKAAC and USHA according to their layouts. they both may have the most simple or (archaic?) layout i dunno. I leave that technical stuff to you technical guys.

Just an observation I am passing along for consideration.

 Cool

Internet Explorer remembers the last setting of the last browser window when you close it. Sometimes it backfires causing windows to open smaller or larger than we want. Follow the instructions below to reset browser windows to open the size you want.

1. Close all browser windows but this one.

2. If you maximized this page before you started reading you need to click the restore down button. Its the pair of boxes between the X and the [-] minimize button. If you didn't maximize this page before you started reading you can skip this step and go to the next.

3. All windows but this one should be closed. This window should not be maximized. Grab the corner of this browser window with your mouse and stretch it to the size you want. If you want windows to open full screen you have to stretch it as far as possible with the corners. DO NOT use the maximize button.

4. Once you have this window stretched to the size you want.. Click the X to close it.

5. All new windows should open to the size you set. If Internet Explorer's browser size memory gets screwed up in the future just follow these instructions again.

TY Hippo.

Just from  a users point of view though,,

the "expanding page to fit screen" layout is IMO only far superior to the layout we are now using. If older monitor resolutions are the only reason we are using this style then i resubmit the suggestion to explore the "expanding page to fit screen" layout. No reason why people in todays age shouldnt have a monitor that allows this to work properly. Sorry old monitor people or person.Cant be very many anyway. Get more a more current monitor.

The layout of the UK site is as close to perfect as you can get I think.

Animal has also offered his help and support if we need to revisit these options.

Fire you are doing a great job I hope you dont think this is directed at you. Your work here is appreciated and respected greatly!

Just give  Firestorm .. time ... and it will be given a stamp of approval by even Inferno and hippo, etc.  Wink

Just give time to the Staff here at USAAC .. they 'volunteer' to do all this .. not be slaves ... give them time please... it will happen  :D

This site was opened so it could be used quickly .. not a perfect Mona Lisa  but usable. Post your dislikes etc .. but don't make an assumption that what you see now is the way it is planned.. etc. Give'm input .. but give'm time :)
